Marriage to Khadijah

زواجه من خديجة رضي الله عنها

Summary

At the age of twenty-five, the Prophet (peace be upon him) married Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (may Allah be pleased with her), a noble and respected woman of Quraysh who was forty years old. She was the first to believe in him when revelation came.

Details

Khadijah had been impressed by his honesty and trustworthiness when he managed her trade. She proposed marriage through her friend Nafisah bint Munabbih. Their marriage was deeply loving and blessed. They had six children: al-Qasim, Zaynab, Ruqayyah, Umm Kulthum, Fatimah, and Abdullah (also known as at-Tayyib and at-Tahir). The Prophet did not marry anyone else during her lifetime. When she passed away, he continued to honour her memory and her friends for the rest of his life.
