His Character & Description

أخلاقه وشمائله ﷺ

Allah says in the Qur'an: “And indeed, you are of a great moral character” (Al-Qalam, 68:4). When Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was asked about the character of the Prophet, she said: “His character was the Qur'an.”

الأخلاق والآداب

Courage

الشجاعة

Ali ibn Abi Talib, himself one of the bravest warriors in history, said: "When the fighting grew fierce and the eyes turned red with fury, we would seek shelter behind the Messenger of Allah. No one was closer to the enemy than he was." The Prophet (peace be upon him) was the bravest of people, combining physical courage with the deeper courage of conviction.

Generosity

الكرم والجود

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was the most generous of all people. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: "The Messenger of Allah was the most generous of people, and he was most generous in Ramadan when Jibril would meet him." His generosity was likened to an unrestrained wind that benefits everyone in its path.

Humility

التواضع

Despite being the leader of the entire Muslim community, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) lived with extraordinary humility. He would mend his own shoes, patch his own garments, milk his own goat, and serve himself without any pretension. He refused to be distinguished from his Companions and sat wherever there was space in a gathering.

Humour and Smiling

المزاح والتبسم

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was known for his frequent smile. Abdullah ibn al-Harith said: "I have not seen anyone who smiled more than the Messenger of Allah." His humour was gentle, kind, and always truthful — he said: "I joke, but I only speak the truth."

Justice and Fairness

العدل والإنصاف

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) upheld justice as an absolute principle that admitted no compromise — not for family, not for social standing, and not for political expediency. His justice was applied equally to the strong and the weak, the noble and the humble, the friend and the foe.

Mercy and Compassion

الرحمة والشفقة

Allah described His Prophet (peace be upon him) as a mercy to all the worlds: "And We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds" (Quran 21:107). His mercy encompassed believers and disbelievers, humans and animals, and was the defining quality of his character.

Patience and Forbearance

الصبر والحلم

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) exemplified patience in the face of persecution, personal loss, and the daily provocations of those who opposed him. His forbearance was not passive resignation but a deliberate, principled response rooted in trust in Allah and hope for the guidance of those who harmed him.

Treatment of Family

معاملة الأهل

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The best of you is the best to his family, and I am the best of you to my family." He was tender, playful, and deeply devoted to his wives and children, setting the standard for family life in Islam.
